The Circle of Accountability: A Simple Prayer Strategy to Impact Your Circle
Who in your life is waiting for you to pray, pursue, and love them into the Kingdom?
What Is the Circle of Accountability?
The Circle of Accountability is a practical, Spirit-led prayer tool that helps you focus on the people you already know—those in your Circle of Influence—and take responsibility for praying for their salvation. This model is widely used in Disciple Making Movements (DMMs) and helps believers live missionally, starting right where they are.
Jesus came to seek and save the lost. Who are the lost in your life?
---How to Create Your Circle of Accountability
Step 1: Draw Your Circle
Grab a blank piece of paper and draw a large circle. Inside that circle, spend 5–10 minutes writing down the names of people you interact with regularly: family members, neighbors, coworkers, friends, baristas, gym buddies—anyone you have influence with.
This becomes your Circle of Influence.
Step 2: Pray Over the Names
Ask God to highlight specific people He wants you to focus on. As you pray, mark or rewrite the names that stand out. These people form your Circle of Accountability—those you are spiritually responsible for, especially in their current lostness or distance from God.
Step 3: Make a Plan
Create a weekly rhythm for praying over these people. For example:
- Monday – Family
- Tuesday – Coworkers
- Wednesday – Neighbors
- Thursday – Friends or acquaintances
- Friday – Specific affinity groups (e.g., sports team, book club, gym)
Ask God for divine appointments, open doors, and favor in relationships. Write down ways you can spend more time with them and build trust.
---Invite Others into Your Mission
Don’t go alone. Share your Circle of Accountability with close friends or your small group. Compare lists. Do you see overlap in your neighborhoods, workplaces, or communities?
Partnering in prayer and mission increases both momentum and spiritual authority.
---Why the Circle of Accountability Is So Powerful
- It makes evangelism personal. You’re not targeting strangers—you’re praying for people God already put in your life.
- It’s scalable and simple. Anyone can do this in 10 minutes—and it works for churches, movements, and individuals alike.
- It’s spiritually intentional. You’re taking responsibility for people’s lostness—and asking God to move.
