How do disciples learn to make disciples who make disciples? It is a culture change and culture changes slowly and intentionally. For those who’ve learned a new language in their adult years, you know it takes lots of effort to get a new vocabulary, sentence structure and use of your mouth and tongue.
The same if true for making disciples who multiply disciples. It takes lots of intentional time to see the DNA of replication spliced into disciples especially if they started following Jesus by being evangelized. What you are won with, is what you are won to, to quote Harry Brown. New ways are difficult to develop.
That is why we emphasize Team and Target so much in the Habits learning experience. We learn more easily in teams and when intention is involved (Target) it keeps the “Why?” on our windshield. BUT, as a person attempting to gather a team, how do you do that?
In this edition we give three great tools to make that happen! Cabbages, Fire and Movements. Yes, three great books about our Father’s amazing work using disciples who make disciples. WAIT, no one reads anymore why are you suggesting books! Listen to me, hear what I say!
We have taken the chapters of these books and made podcasts (mp3 files) out each chapter. You can distribute them to your team and have them listen and when you meet, you can discuss. Or you can listen together, because the file is around 20 minutes long.
Then facilitate a simple discussion: What did you hear? Ask your team to restate the key points they heard. Use the question, Is that all? to stimulate discussion, Once you’ve covered the content, then ask: What did you learn? It is here that you are looking for them to lean into what is going to change as a result of what you heard. You could use the question to further discussion, What are you going to do differently as a result of what you heard?
This is a simple light weight, low maintenance team meeting that will far out weigh the investment of your time to prepare (which is next to nothing!)
Thanks for spending time with Replication Essentials this week. As you take your next faithful step—whether that’s sharing a story, starting a group, or simply showing up in prayer—remember this: small, consistent obedience can lead to Kingdom-scale transformation.
We’re honored to walk alongside you. Let’s keep listening to God, responding with courage, and multiplying disciples—until there’s no place left.
