Your Weekly Toolkit for Multiplying Disciples

Powered by Mercy Alliance

Welcome to Replication Essentials

Have you ever gone to a really nice restaurant, eaten an incredible meal, and decided it was so good you’d go home and try to cook it yourself?

And then you got home. And realized the recipe was way more complicated than it looked.

That’s exactly what happened with last week’s NotebookLM newsletter.

We heard you. It wasn’t as easy as we made it sound. So this week, we’re taking you back into the kitchen—and we’re going to simplify the recipe.

By the end of this email, you’ll know exactly how to use NotebookLM. No overwhelm. No confusion. Just a simple, practical guide to cooking this meal.

Let’s go.

Want to See It Before You Try It?

Before we walk through the steps, here’s a shortcut.

We built a live example notebook so you can see exactly what NotebookLM looks like when it’s set up and ready to use.

What’s the Dish?

NotebookLM is a free AI tool from Google where you upload your own sources—PDFs, websites, Google Docs—and then have a conversation with them.

Think of it like a research assistant who has read everything you’ve uploaded. You ask questions. It answers. Every response comes directly from your content—not the internet.

Here’s what you can do with it:

  • Ask questions about your documents
  • Generate summaries and key insights
  • Create study guides, FAQs, and reports
  • Generate an audio overview—two AI hosts discussing your content like a podcast

That’s the dish. Now let’s talk ingredients.

What You’ll Need

Before you start, make sure you have these three things:

1. A Google Account
If you use Gmail, you already have one. If not, create a free account at google.com.

2. Access to NotebookLM
Go to notebooklm.google.com and sign in.

3. A Few Sources to Upload
Start small. 3-5 documents on one topic. A book chapter. A training manual. A curriculum. Don’t try to cook the full 12-course meal on your first try.

Step-by-Step: The Simple Version

Step 1: Create a New Notebook
Click “New Notebook” and give it a name.

  • Example: “Hybrid Church — Roy Moran”
  • Example: “Discovery Group Training”
  • Example: “DMM Coaching Materials”

Step 2: Add Your Sources
Click “Add Source.” You can:

  • Drag and drop a PDF
  • Paste a website link
  • Connect a Google Doc
  • Paste text directly

NotebookLM will process your sources in about 10-30 seconds.

Step 3: Use the Chat
Type your first question in the chat box at the bottom of the screen.

Start simple:

  • “Summarize the main points from these sources.”
  • “What are the common themes?”
  • “Explain this in simple language for someone new to DMM.”

Step 4: Explore the Built-In Tools
On the right side of the screen you’ll find the Studio panel. Here’s what each tool does:

  • Study Guide — Automatically generated key topics and questions
  • Briefing Doc — A structured summary of your content
  • Audio Overview — Two AI hosts discuss your content like a podcast episode

How to Download and Use Your Content

This is the part most people miss. Here’s how to get your content out of NotebookLM and into your hands:

Downloading Summaries and Guides
Click the three dots next to any generated content. Select “Copy” or “Export to Google Docs.” Paste into Word, email, or your training materials.

Downloading the Audio Overview
Click “Generate” under Audio Overview. Wait for it to process. Then click the download icon to save the audio file to your device. Listen offline. Share with your team on WhatsApp.

Sharing Your Notebook
Click the share button in the top right corner. Invite your team members by email. You can collaborate on the same notebook together.

Pro Tip: Start Small

Don’t try to cook the full 12-course meal on your first try.

Start with one document. Ask it three questions. Generate one audio overview. See how it handles that.

Once you feel comfortable—add more sources. Try the slide deck. Build a quiz for your team.

The goal isn’t to master every feature today. The goal is to take one step. Then another. That’s how movements multiply—and that’s how you learn a new tool.

Not sure where to start? Pull up our example notebook and explore it first.

I want to hear from you:

  1. Did you try NotebookLM last week? What happened? What got confusing?
  2. What document would you most want to upload first—and what would you ask it?

Hit reply and let me know. We read every response and we’ll use your questions to keep making these guides better.
